As Mother’s Day approaches, I had the pleasure of holding some Mother’s Day Mini Sessions this past weekend, and they were wonderful! It was so heartwarming to see all the moms with their little ones and to capture those sweet, meaningful moments for them.

When I photograph families, I always think about how these images might be printed and hung on their walls. That’s why I take a mix of wide shots and detailed close-ups to preserve the full story. As a mother myself, I treasure photos that show the connection between me and my child, and I hope you feel the same when you see your own images.

I also want to talk a little about spring outfits and share some ideas. What you wear really makes a difference in your photos. The right outfit can elevate the entire look and feel of your session and help you shine even more.

Spring is the season of fresh colors, blooming flowers, and soft natural light—perfect for light, airy, and timeless photos. Here’s what works beautifully:


Color Palette Ideas

  • Soft pastels: blush pink, baby blue, lavender, mint
  • Neutrals: cream, beige, ivory, soft gray
  • Earthy tones: sage green, light tan, dusty rose
  • Avoid loud/neon colors—softer shades look more elegant and timeless.


For Women & Girls

  • Flowery dresses or maxi skirts
  • Light fabrics like cotton, linen, or chiffon
  • Add a floral print or delicate lace
  • Optional: cardigan, hat, or hair accessories (like a bow or flower crown for little girls)


For Men & Boys

  • Neutral button-up shirts or henleys
  • Khakis, light jeans, or linen pants
  • Roll up the sleeves for a relaxed look
  • Optional: suspenders or light sweater layered over a shirt


For Families & Groups

  • Coordinate colors, don’t match exactly
  • Choose 2–3 colors and mix shades (e.g., blush, cream, light tan)
  • Mix textures: pair denim with linen or knit
  • Keep patterns subtle (small florals, stripes); avoid big logos or text


Shoes

  • Neutral shoes, sandals, or flats
  • Avoid bold sneakers or athletic shoes if possible
